Kathmandu. The 16th conference of the World Social Forum is being held in Nepal from today. In the conference to be held in the federal capital Kathmandu, leaders and representatives of various social movements from more than 92 countries of seven continents are participating.
The conference of ‘World Social Forum’, which is being organized globally with the aim of creating pressure for social justice, climate justice, human rights, equality, environmental protection, sustainable peace, is going to be held in Nepal this time.
According to the conference management committee, the conference with the slogan ‘Another world is possible’ will discuss and debate against neoliberalism, globalization, capitalism, climate crisis, patriarchy, caste, untouchability and apartheid, gender discrimination, gender and sexuality-based violence and discrimination.
In the 16th conference of the World Social Forum, which started in Kathmandu from Thursday, a special debate is being held on the main slogan ‘Another world is possible’. According to the organizers, there will be 13 main categories in the conference. 402 large and small programs and representatives of 92 countries are participating in the conference.
Basically, during the conference, there will be 402 small and big programs based on 13 main categories.
These include labor movement, farmers and agricultural movement, land rights, agricultural food security, women’s movement, marginalized social groups, democratic campaign, refugee and immigration movement, media conclave, intercontinental youth conference, etc. 1,252 organizations and groups from 92 countries have registered as self-organizers for the conference. It is expected that 40,000 to 50,000 people will participate in the event. This global conference, which started in Brazil for the first time in 2001, has been organized by different countries every year. This platform is considered as a global platform of pure civil society movement against inequality. Conference programs have been translated into six languages namely Nepali, English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese.
