74,000 people were safely evacuated before a flood hit villages along the Khando River this Wednesday, thanks to a community early-warning system. ICIMOD has pioneered and scaled these cost-effective, community-led tools in partnership with local governments and civil society. With 1.8 million people at risk of floods this monsoon in Nepal alone, and water hazards set to increase in frequency and ferocity, it’s urgent we scale these tools up, and make Early Warning For All a reality in the Hindu Kush Himalaya.
