A lawsuit against TikTok in the US

The US has sued the Chinese short video sharing app TikTok. On Friday, the Ministry of Justice filed a lawsuit against Tiktok and its parent company ByteDance for failing to protect the privacy of children on social media.
The United States Federal Trade Commission is also involved in this issue. It is said in the case that this case was filed to stop the trend of unauthorized collection of information of children. This case was filed while the administration of US President Joe Biden is cracking down on TikTok.
According to the government, Tiktok has violated the Protection of Children’s Online Privacy Act. According to this act, in the United States, companies must obtain parental permission to collect information from children under 13 years of age.
There are about 170 million users of Tik Tok in the US. ByteDance will be banned if the company does not sell Tiktok’s business in the US by January 19.
