A new port opened for trade with China

A new trade route has been launched between China and Nepal in foreign trade. During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s visit to China, the two countries have opened new trade routes.

With the commissioning of the port built near the Corona border, the number of main trade routes used for trade with China has reached three.

Currently, there are two trade points between Nepal and China namely Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi. In the near future, Liji port, which is at a height of 4600 meters above sea level, will be added to this list.

On the occasion of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s visit to China, a new trade route has been launched.

There are about half a dozen trade routes in the plan of identification and construction to be used for trade between Nepal and China.
According to the South China Morning Post, China has opened a new trade route i.e. Liji port with the aim of increasing economic activity with neighboring Nepal.
After the completion of the construction of this port, it was found to be operable through the inspection conducted by the Ministry of Commerce. It is mentioned that the inspection found that the port is ready for trade with Nepal.
It is said that economic activities with Nepal will become stronger after this port, which is only 12 km from the border of Nepal, is put into operation.
Liji Port, which is 935 kilometers from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, is located in Zhongba County of Sigatse Province. Similarly, Liji port is at a distance of 499 km from Kathmandu.
It is located near Korla pass near Upper Mustang towards Nepal. Trade between Nepalese and Tibetans in food grains, salt and sheep and goats has been going through this border.
The road to Nepal to connect this checkpoint has already been completed. And, it is the fourth trade channel connecting Nepal-China. 1400 km border is connected between Nepal and China.
Out of which, two commercial ports namely Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi are mainly operating. In addition, a bilateral agreement was reached in 2012 to use the Riyu-Olangchungola crossing as a commercial route.
