Heavy rains in eastern China’s Anhui province have affected 811,000 residents and forced 195,000 people to evacuate their homes, local authorities said on Sunday.According to the provincial emergency management department, as of Sunday morning, six provincial cities, 35 counties and districts in Anhui were hit by the heavy rains.
In the Anhui section of China’s longest Yangtze River, water levels have remained above the danger line. Due to torrential rains, water in 19 other rivers in the province has also risen above the alert level.
During the last 24 hours, heavy rains have fallen over large areas of the province, more than 100 mm of rain has been seen at 258 stations. The maximum rainfall of this was 255 mm.
In an emergency response to the rain and flooding, officials in eight cities in Anhui, including five cities along the Yangtze River, have patrolled a total of 26,000 citizens and asked them to be cautious.
According to the Annahui Meteorological Center, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the Yangtze River basin and southern regions from the next 24 hours until Monday.
China’s Yangtze River is set to experience its worst flood in 2024.
The ministry raised the emergency flood response level to Level 3 in Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei and Hunan provinces and immediately dispatched four additional task forces to provide guidance for flood relief efforts.
