After 10 years, South Africa beat West Indies in the semi-finals

USA – South Africa defeated the West Indies by 3 wickets in the Super-8 match of the ICC T-20 World Cup 2024 based on Duckworth-Lewis method and made it to the semi-finals.
South Africa reached the semi-finals by being on the top position with 6 points from Group B of Super-8. It is the seventh consecutive victory of South Africa in the ongoing World Cup. Chasing a target of 123 runs, South Africa finished losing 7 wickets in 16.1 overs. Chasing the target of 136 runs, South Africa were 15-2 in 2 overs, but the match was stopped due to rain. Again, three overs were lost when the game started late.
Young batsman Tristan Stubbs scored 29 runs off 27 balls with 4 boundaries in South Africa’s victory. Opener Quinton de Kock was bowled out for 12, Riza Hendricks for zero, Aiden McCram for 18 and David Miller for 4 runs. Marco Janson scored 21 off 14 balls with 1 four and 1 six and Kagiso Rabada was not out on 5 runs.
Roshton Chesh of West Indies took 3 wickets by spending 12 runs in 3 overs. Andre Russell took 2 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs. Alzari Joseph took 2 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs.
Before that, the West Indies, who lost the toss and were invited to bat first, made 135 runs in 20 overs losing 8 wickets. Roshton Chesh scored 52 runs off 42 balls with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. West Indies reached 5-2 after losing opener Sai Hope for nil and Nicholas Puran for 1 run.
The third wicket was returned to the game by Kyle Meyers and Roshton Chesh with a 65-ball 81-run partnership. Meyers was caught for 35 off 34 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. West Indies were 86-3 in 12 overs when Mayers was caught out. Andre Russell scored 15 with 2 sixes in 9 balls, Alzari Joseph made 11, Rovman Powell 1 and Sherfan Rutherford was caught out for zero.
Spinner Tabrez Shamsi took 3 wickets in 4 overs for 27 runs. Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Makram and Marko Jansson took 1 wicket each. From Group-2, South Africa topped with 6 points in 3 matches. England finished in second place with 4 points from 4 games. South Africa will play the runner-up of Group 1 and England will play the winner in the semi-finals. The team from Group 1 to the semi-finals is yet to be decided.
South Africa has reached the semi-finals for the third time in the history of the T20 World Cup. Earlier, South Africa played in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2009 and 2014. In other editions, they could not reach the semi-finals.
