The historic ‘Amar Ekushey Boi Mela’ will be organised on the grounds of the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital city, Dhaka. State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid visited the two venues today to see the progress of the preparations for the month-long book fair.

‘Paro Boi, Garo Desh: Bangabandhur Bangladesh’ meaning ‘Read Book, build country: Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh’ is the theme of the fair this year.

The book fair started in 1972 to commemorate the sacrifices of people killed by Pakistani forces on 21st February, 1952, demanding Bangla as the mother language for the then East Pakistan. It has been organised every year by the Bangla Academy since 1978.
