Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left her official residence in the capital, Dhaka, amid widespread protests demanding her resignation.
On condition of anonymity, the source said, “The Prime Minister and her sister have left the Prime Minister’s official residence, Gan Bhavan, and gone to a safe place. “She wanted to record the address in the name of the countrymen. But did not get a chance to do so.”
While the protest started by student groups against the reservation quota system in government jobs in Bangladesh is becoming more violent, Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Walker-Uz-Zaman has informed AFP shortly after a military source who will address the compatriots today, the prime minister left the government residence keeping in mind the security.
The movement has gained more energy as the public participation in the street demonstration has increased after the damage caused when the police arrested the protest. Demonstrators have raised the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
