The birth anniversary of the then King Prithvi Narayan Shah is being celebrated across the country today by organizing various programs. This year, the 303rd birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan, who was born to King Narbhupal Shah and Queen Kaushalyawati in Gorkha on Poush 27, 1779 BS, is being celebrated.
Prithvi Narayan Shah became king on Chaitra 25, 1799 BS. Before that, Nepal was divided into 52 kingdoms. After becoming king, Prithvi Narayan succeeded in expanding Nepal’s borders from Teesta in the east to Chepe River in the west. After Prithvi Narayan’s death, his successors have a history of expanding the Nepal kingdom to Fort Kangra in the west.
