Bus fares increased by 22% in Sri Lanka

Colombo: In Sri Lanka, the bus fare has been increased by 22 per cent from Thursday midnight.

National Transport Commission (NTC) Director General Nilan Miranda said that the minimum bus fare will be 40 rupees. He said the decision was taken considering the recent fuel price hike.

He further said, bus fares have been increased on four occasions this year alone. During the discussion on Tuesday the private bus owners requested a 30 per cent and 20 per cent fare increase. However, with the calculation considering the twelve criteria, the bus fare has been increased by 22 per cent.
