Agency. China’s State Council has released the Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Action Plan for 2024-25 with the goal of reducing energy conservation and carbon dioxide emissions by 2.5 percent and 3.9 percent per unit of gross domestic product respectively.
According to the plan, the energy consumption per unit of added value for industrial establishments above the prescribed size will be reduced by about three and a half percent this year. It is mentioned that the ratio of non-fossil energy consumption will reach 18.9 percent in 2024 and 20 percent in 2025.
In 2024 and 2025, changes in energy conservation and carbon reduction in major sectors and industries are expected to reduce about 50 million tons of standard coal and about 130 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
China is committed to reach the peak of carbon emissions by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
