China will build the world’s largest dam in Tibet, producing 3 times more electricity than the Three Gorges

Kathmandu. China has announced to build a powerful dam on the Yarlung Sangpo River in Tibet to generate electricity. China plans to build a dam here to generate three times more electricity than the Three Gorges. According to China’s official news agency Xinhua, the Chinese government plans to spend $137 billion for it. According to experts, this dam is expected to be the largest on Earth. It is not yet clear when construction of the Yarlung River dam will begin and exactly where it will be built. But this dam is expected to be built in an earthquake-prone and heavy rainfall area near the China-India border. According to Chinese officials, the dam will generate 300 billion kilowatts of electricity. China’s Three Gorges Dam has been generating 88.2 billion kilowatts (22,500 megawatts) of electricity. It is said that the capacity of the new hydroelectric project that China is going to build will be more than 70,000 megawatts.
The Yarlung Tsangpo River, which is being dammed, enters India through the Tibetan Plateau. This river reaches Bangladesh through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. This river is known as the Brahmaputra in India and the Padma in Bangladesh. Therefore, some are concerned that the dam being built on the Yarlung River by China will affect the northeastern states of India and Bangladesh as well. It is also estimated that it will affect the riverbank area. However, Chinese officials have said that no one will be harmed by it. The news that China will build a dam on the Yarlung River to generate electricity has been made public many times before. However, the detailed details of the construction have not been made public yet. It is also not clear how many households will be affected by this, how much land area it will occupy, and how much damage will be done to the environment.
