Chinese EV maker BYD overtakes US Tesla

Kathmandu– Chinese electric and hybrid car manufacturer BYD has surpassed American EV manufacturer Tesla. BYD has surpassed the world’s largest American EV maker Tesla in terms of revenue.
In 2024, BYD’s income has reached 107 billion US dollars by 29 percent. According to data, Tesla, the company of American billionaire Elon Musk, has earned 97.7 billion US dollars in 2024.
BYD’s financial data published on Monday showed that the income increased due to the increase in sales of hybrid vehicles.
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu said the company made good progress in 2024. Last November, BYD became the first company to produce 10 million new energy vehicles (NEVs).
“From batteries, electronics to new energy vehicles, BYD has become an industry leader in every field, breaking the dominance of foreign brands and reshaping the global market landscape,” Wang said in a statement.
BYD recently unveiled technology that can charge in the same time as filling up with gasoline.
BYD’s Hong Kong-listed share price has risen 46 percent so far this year.
Tesla’s share price has decreased by more than 31 percent this year to 2025.
