Chinese tycoon Guo found guilty in US of US$1b investor fraud

 

Washington DC. Chinese businessman Guo Wengwei, who is in self-proclaimed exile in America, has been charged with several charges. He was indicted in an American court for defrauding his online followers of more than one billion dollars.

They have been found guilty of 9 out of 12 charges. There are accusations like fraud, money laundering. Quo will be sentenced on November 19.

It is estimated that he may be sentenced to decades in prison. Quo was in jail since his arrest in 2023. He is a bitter critic of the Communist Party of China.

He was also an aide of former US President Donald Trump’s chief strategist, Stephen Bannon. Between 2018 and 2023, Quo defrauded his online followers of more than $1 billion in the name of investing and crypto schemes, prosecutors said.

He had spent this money on his luxurious lifestyle. According to prosecutors, Quo bought a 50,000-square-foot mansion, a $100 million Lamborghini, and a $37 million yacht with this amount.
