‘Clean sweep’ by Pakistan in series against South Africa

Kathmandu, Pakistan has ‘clean swept’ the three-match ODI series against South Africa. After scoring a century, Sime Ayub helped Pakistan defeat the home team by 36 runs in the third ODI according to the DLS method. South Africa won the toss and decided to field first in the rain-affected match at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Pakistan scored 308 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the match played in 47 overs. Despite opener Abdullah Shafiq being out for a golden duck, Ayub and Babar Azam shared a 114-run partnership for the second wicket. Babar contributed 53 runs. Ayub played a brilliant innings of 101 runs. He hit 13 fours and two sixes in 94 balls. This is Ayub’s second century in this series. He had also scored 109 runs in the first match of the series.
Likewise, Mohammad Rizwan added 53 runs. Salman Agha scored 48 and Tayyab Tahir scored 28.
Kagiso Rabada took three wickets for the bowling side. But in reply, South Africa were all out for 271 runs. Heinrich Klaasen top-scored with 81 runs.
Pakistan’s Sufiyan Mukeem took four wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Nasim Shah took two wickets each.
This is the second time since 2021 that South Africa have lost a series at home to Pakistan. Pakistan won the first ODI by 3 wickets and the second by 81 runs.
Now the two-match Test series between these two will start from 26th December. South Africa need a Test win against Pakistan to secure a place in next year’s World Test Championship final.
