But the Dutch start-up company Elysian is about to make a fully electric airplane. The aircraft can carry up to 90 passengers at a time and travel up to 500 miles (805 km). It is said that the aircraft can reduce emissions by 90%. The company aims to make commercial flights of this aircraft within a decade. This plane’s name is E9X.
So far, the plane has been limited to paper only. By the year 2030, the company is said to make a complete prototype. However, some of its design features are obvious. “Don’t ever think that an electric plane will look like today’s successful plane,” says Rellard de Vries, Elysian’s director of design and engineering. But it looks like a jet from the 1960s, he said. He also said that the structural weight of the aircraft will be less and the weight of the battery will be more.
Due to this, the aircraft will be bigger and heavier. But the plane is said to be able to fly much farther than people thought before. There will be 8 propeller engines in the aircraft. Its wingspan will be 138 feet (4 meters). It will be bigger than Boeing 737 or Airbus A320.
