Kathmandu. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdellatty has held talks with his counterparts from Turkey, Syria, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Russia to address the growing violence in Syria. Under the direction of President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Abdelati conducted a series of phone calls to assess the rapid developments in Syria and its impact on regional security and stability, according to the ministry.
Abdelati emphasized the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. The minister reiterated that Egypt rejects any action that incites sectarian divisions or undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
The ministry said Abdellatti’s discussions with US and Russian officials focused on finding ways to stop the rising tensions. The talks are part of Egypt’s wider diplomatic efforts to monitor the situation in Syria, in coordination with regional and international actors.
Since November 27, Syrian rebel groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham have launched significant offensives in northern Syria in an attempt to advance into government-held areas. As of Thursday, rebel forces have captured major cities such as Aleppo and Hama.
