England defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the Super-8 stage match of ICC T-20 World Cup cricket played on Thursday morning. This is England’s first victory in the Super-8 stage match in the ongoing World Cup. England, which is in Group-2 of the Super-8 stage, is on the first place of the table with two points. South Africa is in second place with equal points. South Africa defeated the host USA by 18 runs. West Indies and America, who lost in the first match, are sitting in third and fourth place respectively. West Indies, who lost the toss and were invited to bat first, scored 180 runs after losing four wickets in the scheduled over. England, who came down to bat in reply, achieved the victory target by losing two wickets in 17.3 overs. In England’s victory, opener Phil Salt contributed 87 runs without defeat. He was aggressive from the start and faced only 47 balls, hitting five sixes and seven fours. Jas Buttler, another opener, also scored 25 runs.
Captain Buttler hit two boundaries off 22 balls. Salt and Butler shared a 67-run partnership for the opening wicket. Jonny Bairstow, the number four batsman, also scored 48 runs without defeat. He faced just 26 balls and hit two sixes and five fours as well.
Moeen Ali added 13 runs to the account of the team. Andre Russell and Roston Chase, the bowlers of the Caribbean team, took one wicket each. Before that, opener Johnson Charles scored 38 runs for West Indies who batted first. Nicholas Pooran and captain Rovpan Powell scored 36 runs each. Serafon Rutherford was unbeaten on 28 runs. Opener Brandon King scored 23 runs. He retired from the field through Hurt. Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone took one wicket each from England.
