‘Global Money Week-2024’ starts from today

Kathmandu. Global Money Week – 2024′ has started from today. This is the twelfth edition of the Global Money Week, which is celebrated for a week in the month of March every year.
On the first day of the campaign, Nepal Rastra Bank in collaboration with Nepal Insurance Authority, Nepal Securities Board and Cooperative Department organized the opening program of Global Money Week. More than 500 students studying in classes 7 to 12 from seven different schools in Kathmandu participated in the program. Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari inaugurated the program.

On that occasion, he highlighted the need to make financial literacy effective in order to achieve the goal of financial inclusion. Governor Adhikari said that financial inclusion can be achieved only through the promotion of financial literacy.

He said that the goal of financial inclusion cannot be reached until financial services reach all levels of people in the state. Financial literacy is an integral part of it.’ He urged all concerned bodies to conduct awareness programs aimed at children and youth to make the week-long campaign of Global Money Week a success. Mentioning that the practice of saving should be prioritized from an early age, Governor Adhikari urged the students to be aware of their secure financial future.

In the opening session of the program, Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority Surya Prasad Silwal, Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Bam Bahadur Mishra, Executive Director of Nepal Securities Board Dr. Navraj Adhikari, Registrar of Cooperatives Department Pitambar Ghimire along with senior officials and bankers of Rashtra Bank and other regulatory agencies of the financial sector were present.

In the second session of the program, there was a panel discussion with the participation of officials of Nepal Rastra Bank, Securities Board, Insurance Authority, Cooperative Department, Bankers’ Association and students. On this occasion, Rashtra Bank Executive Director Dev Kumar Dhakal, Securities Board Executive Director Dr. Navraj Adhikari, Director of Insurance Authority Kamal Prasad Regmi, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Department Tolraj Upadhyay and President of Nepal Bankers Association Sunil KC informed the students about the work area and functioning of their respective bodies.

During that time, they also answered the questions raised by the students. Nepal Rastra Bank, Director of Financial Inclusion and Customer Protection Division Kiran Pandit facilitated the panel discussion. After the panel discussion, the students from the schools participating in the program gave various presentations on topics related to the financial system.

As part of this campaign which will be conducted till Chait 11th, awareness programs will be conducted in collaboration with Nepal Rastra Bank to help in increasing financial awareness across the country. Nepal Insurance Authority, Nepal Securities Board, Department of Cooperatives, National Bank Institute Limited, financial awareness program targeted at youth will be organized separately.

In addition, banks and financial institutions, payment service providers, remittance companies will also conduct targeted programs of Global Money Week. Under this campaign, various programs have been planned with the aim of increasing awareness about banking/financial, capital market, insurance, cooperative services. Under which financial awareness interactions and awareness contests will be conducted among students, awareness programs, audio-visual content and interviews will be broadcasted through the media and social networks.

Similarly, a program has been arranged to allow young students to observe financial service providers. It is expected that the campaign will help in achieving the goal of economic prosperity of the country by promoting financial literacy among young students and expanding financial access, creating self-employment and developing entrepreneurship, increasing production and income levels. Global Money Week is basically a campaign started worldwide with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of financial education among teenagers and young adults.

This campaign has been conducted globally every year since 2012 in conjunction with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Global Money Week has been celebrated in Nepal since 2013 in collaboration with National Bank. So far, about 60 million children, teenagers and young people from more than 176 countries of the world have benefited. The permanent slogan of Global Money Week is ‘Learn.Save.Earn.’
