In Himachal Pradesh life has been thrown out of gear due to heavy rains since last two days. So far 54 people have died in the state due to heavy rains. Apart from this, 46 houses have also been completely destroyed. In this monsoon season, the loss of property in the state has been estimated to be 365 crore rupees so far.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for seven districts of Himachal Pradesh and an orange alert for three districts for today as the state continued to receive heavy rainfall. IMD also issued alerts for flash floods, landslides in the state.
Akashvani correspondent report: Normal life has been badly affected in the state due to heavy rains for the last two days. Due to heavy rains about 800 roads have been blocked at many places in the state and many bridges have also collapsed due to rise in the water level of rivers and drains. The 14th battalion of NDRF in a courageous and toughest operation, rescued 6 people trapped in the Beas river at Nagwai in Mandi district last midnight. Meanwhile, in view of the Meteorological Department’s warning, the state government has appealed to the people not to travel unnecessarily and not to go near rivers and streams. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has called upon all the MLAs to stay in their respective constituencies and cooperate with the people in this hour of disaster.
