India crush Bangladesh by 227 runs in third ODI

India redeemed some of its lost glory by defeating Bangladesh by 227 runs in the third ODI played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium at Chattogram on Saturday. Powered by opener Ishan Kishan fastest ever double century in one-day internationals, India scored a mammoth 409/8 in the match, the highest score by any team against Bangladesh. Left hander Ishan Kishan who came in place of the injured Rohit Sharma scored 210 off 131 balls with the help of 24 fours and 10 sixes.

Kishan scored his maiden ODI century and continued to accelerate the score card with Virat Kohli giving him steady company at the other end. Kishan is only the fourth Indian batsman to score a double century in ODI after Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sahwag.

Virat Kohli also scored a magnificent century of 113 and put up a partnership of 290 runs for the second wicket. Having failed miserably in the first two ODIs against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli’s 113 was his first ODI century since August 2019. With this century, Virat Kohli has scored 72 centuries in all three formats of cricket to surpass former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.

After the departure of Kishan India lost quick wickets but Washington Sundar made a quickfire 37 to help India cross the 400 score.

Bangladesh started off in a lacklustre fashion losing Liton for 29 and Mushfiqur Rahim bowled by Spinner Axar Patel at 7. Shakib Hasan scored 43 but fell to Kuldeep Yadav as Bangladesh lurched at 124/5. Shardul Thakur did excellent bowling to claim the wickets of Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz within a span of 4 balls. He took three wickets while Axar and Umran Malik two each. Bangladesh folded up at 182 in 34 overs to give India a resounding victory at Chattogram, though it lost the series 2-1.

India and Bangladesh will play two-test matches. The first test match will begin at Chattogram on December 14.
