The Government of India will release Rs 7,453 crore for wind power projects in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu coast.
This fund has been released to establish 500 MW projects in each state.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav confirmed the decision after a cabinet meeting chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the approval marks the establishment of India’s first offshore wind power terminal.
These terminals located in the sea far from the shore ensure continuous air availability throughout the year. The government expects to generate 3.72 billion units of renewable electricity through 1 gigawatt of offshore wind projects, which will significantly reduce carbon emissions.
