To address the labor shortage, the Prime Minister’s Office announced on Tuesday that the Israeli authorities have approved a quota of 92,000 foreign workers for jobs in agriculture, industry, hotels and restaurants.
This is the first time that Israel has allowed foreign workers to work in a restaurant.
Under the plan, 70 percent quota has been allocated especially for agricultural workers. Israeli agriculture is suffering a staggering loss in output and labor.
Before October 7, the 29,900 foreign workers in Israel were mostly working in fields, gardens, greenhouses and packing plants.
Israeli workers to fill the vacancies are called up for military reserve duty. Palestinian laborers are currently banned as security risks.
Most of these areas are within 2 km of the Lebanese border where farmers work independently in fields and gardens.
2,000 people will initially work in the restaurant for the first time in the plan to supply labor to industry and hotels by foreign workers.
