Tokyo. The Japanese government is trying to limit the number of tourists visiting Mount Fuji. Recently, while the number of climbers is increasing, the Japanese government is charging a fee to the climbers to limit the number.
Every climber who wants to climb Mount Fuji will have to pay $13 from next season. A limit will also be set on the number of people allowed to climb.
Between July and September last year, 220,000 people climbed Mount Fuji. The government has taken this step after seeing the high crowd of climbers, the increase in injuries and the increase in garbage on the footpaths.
This year, only 4,000 climbers will be allowed from Yoshida mountain in one day. This trail can be easily accessed from the capital Tokyo. More than 60 percent of climbers go to climb Mount Fuji through this trail. Last year, Shizuo prefecture police received 61 calls for rescue due to the overcrowding of climbers.
Many calls were received about problems caused by mountain climbers suffering from hypothermia or climbing without proper preparation. Lately, many countries have been making announcements such as imposing fees or limiting the number of visitors after not being able to cope with the influx of tourists. After several climbers died during the 2023 season, questions are being raised about the permission to climb Mt.Fuji.
