The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), in collaboration with WHO, Country Office for Nepal, has conducted a Joint Operational Review to evaluate the health sector’s response to the West Nepal earthquake that hit Karnali Province last November. Over 35 participants representing all three levels of the government participated in the two-day event that focused on assessing key pillars of emergency response under four major themes of leadership and coordination, emergency operations, collaborative surveillance, and continuity of health services. Participants engaged in rich discussions aimed at identifying and documenting the best practices, gaps, challenges, and lessons learned during the response to the earthquake to formulate recommendations for preparedness and response activities, and strengthen health system resilience to disaster and public health emergencies. WHO will continue to support the MoHP’s recovery and reconstruction efforts in the province.
