Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) became a part of India’s international cooperation with its neighbours when it delivered two sets of diesel multiple unit (DEMU) trains to Nepal on Saturday and undertook initial operations of trains between Jaynagar (India-Bihar) and Kurtha (Janakpuri-Nepal). Konkan Railway will run the operations for a year.
The two DEMU train sets with five cars each were manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai. They are fitted with 1,600 HP propulsion and have features such as one AC coach, electronic fuel injection, mircoprocessor-based AC-AC traction, pneumatic suspension and toilets. The Nepal Government finalised the colour scheme of the train sets based on its national flag, said a release from KRCL.
