Liver transplantation for the fifth time in ‘Teaching Hospital’ without the help of foreign doctors

Kathmandu: A team of doctors has successfully transplanted a liver for the fifth time in Maharajganj University Teaching Hospital without doctors from foreign hospitals.The team led by Gastro and Liver Transplantation Surgeon Prada Ramesh Singh Bhandari of the hospital did the liver transplant on Friday evening. According to Prada Bhandari, a man from Dhangadhi has received a liver transplant.

Prada Bhandari said that the transplanting started from 8 am on Friday and continued till the afternoon. The 42-year-old patient was donated a liver by his 40-year-old wife.

Along with this, the 15th liver transplant has been completed in the Tertiary Teaching Hospital. The first successful liver transplant was done with the involvement of Nepali doctors on 27th of January 2080 at the University Teaching Hospital.

Liver transplant was done for the first time in May 2076 at Tervi Teaching Hospital.
