Moscow– Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow is ready for negotiations on Ukraine.
“We have always said this, and I would like to emphasize it once again, that we are ready for talks on the Ukrainian issue,” Putin said.
President Putin said that some issues needed special attention, saying, “How can we start talks now when there are sanctions?” The sanctions need to be lifted first for talks. “If the talks were to resume, it would be illegal under the current legal framework of Ukraine.”
He said, “As long as this order continues, I do not believe that these negotiations can be started or not or that they can be completed in the right way. Therefore, the next round of discussions is necessary to create an environment for talks.”
He said, “The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, had previously issued an order prohibiting negotiations with Russia.” Is it possible to hold talks in this situation?”
He mentioned that although some initial discussions could be held, it would be difficult to hold serious talks due to the existing restrictions from the Ukrainian side.
The Russian leader has said that Zelensky is in no rush to lift the ban on talks and follow orders from his sponsors. He said that those who provide financial support to Kiev should pressure the Ukrainian leader to prepare an environment for negotiations.
Addressing the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos on Thursday, US President Donald Trump said that US efforts to reach a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine are “progressing hopefully”. Agency
