Kathmandu — The eleventh National Health and Scientific Summit organized by the National Health Research Council is starting in Kathmandu from Thursday.
On the occasion of entering the 34th year of its establishment, the council has organized a conference that will last for three days.
According to the council, 100 foreign scientists including around 1000 Nepalese scientists will participate in the conference which will start from March 28. The participating scientists have come from countries including the UK, US, China, Switzerland, Germany, India, and others.
The main theme of this year’s conference will focus on health challenges caused by climate change, resilience of health systems, and ensuring equitable access to health services. In addition, there will be detailed discussions on health insurance, communicable and non-communicable diseases, mental health, and research regulation.
A total of 276 scientific papers will be presented at the conference with 146 oral and 130 poster presentations. Of these, 87 will be oral and 115 will be poster presentations.
According to Dr. Pramod Joshi, Nepali scientists working abroad will present research related to the environment, agriculture and health at the conference.
“Along with health, there will be a multifaceted discussion about the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector,” he said.
Joshi said that the conference, which will have the active participation of the National Planning Commission and other relevant ministries, will contribute to long-term national and international policymaking.
Research chief of the council Dr. Meghnath Dhimal informed that the change in the population structure due to migration and its effect on health services will also be discussed. “Due to population growth and decline, some health programs are facing difficulties in implementing them,” he said.
The Council expects the findings of the conference to serve as a basis for evidence-based policy-making to ensure sustainable and sustainable healthcare.
Scientists and communicators who have contributed in different categories will be awarded in the conference. The awards include the Health Research Award, Young Health Researcher Award, Mrigendra Jakkan Medical Trust Young Health Research Award, Health Journalist Award, and Gopal Prasad Acharya Health Research Award.
This year, the Health Journalist Award and the Gopal Prasad Acharya Health Research Award are new awards added to the conference.
