Nepal: Campaigning in full swing ahead of May 13 local elections

Kathmandu: Campaigning in full swing ahead of May 13 local elections . On May 13, Nepal will hold its second elections for 753 local governments. The first election of local governments under the new constitution – which was promulgated in 2015 and adopted a three-tier system of government – was held in 2017.

Elections in six metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitans, 276 municipalities and 460 rural municipalities will be held under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system. Polling will be held to fill 35221 local legislative and executive seats.  Total 145,112 candidates contesting the polls. There are more than 18,000 Male Candidates & more than 16,000 Female Candidates from 21-35 Age group in this Local election who are contesting for different posts.
