Nepal: Counting of votes for proportional representation ballot papers for Parliamentary election to be completed today

The Election Commission of Nepal has finished counting of all first-past-the-post ballot papers of November 20 provincial elections and counting of votes for the proportional representation ballot papers for Parliamentary election will be completed today. AIR correspondent reports that Election Commission of Nepal Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel told All India Radio that after completion of counting of proportional representation ballot papers, the technical committee may take 2-3 days for calculation of winners in proportional representation. The Election Commission of Nepal would write to political parties that have won seats under proportional representation to send the names of their candidates within three days. Winning Parties should send names of their candidates after getting them endorsed by their central committees.

About 4 to 5 days from finalising the list of all winners, the Election Commission will submit election results to the President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. The process of forming the new government can start only after the EC submits election results to the president. The November 20 voting for parliamentary and provincial elections has produced the Nepali Congress as the largest party. In provincial election results, NC has won 112 seats out of 165 followed by CPN-UML winning 91 seats. For elections to the Federal parliament, Nepali Congress has won 57 seats followed by CPN UML winning 44 seats. The Technical committee of Election Commission of Nepal will calculate proportional representation seats soon.
