Nepal is committed to work for the collective interests of the people of the BIMSTEC region: Prime Minister

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that Nepal is fully committed to work for the collective interest of the people of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). In a message issued on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the establishment of BIMSTEC, Prime Minister Dahal expressed Nepal’s full commitment to the objectives and principles contained in the BIMSTEC charter.
Prime Minister Dahal, on behalf of the Government of Nepal and himself, expressed his best wishes to the governments and people of the member countries and said that regional cooperation is the main basis of stability, economic prosperity and unity in today’s complex, dynamic and interconnected world. He said that although this sub-regional organization established to meet the aspirations of the people of this region by building a peaceful and prosperous BIMSTEC region through strong regional cooperation, there is still much work to be done in that direction.

In the message, the Prime Minister said, “There are immense opportunities and possibilities in the BIMSTEC region to expand communication networks, increase energy cooperation, trade investment and tourism, as well as achieve the goals of sustainable development and include all citizens in development activities to free tens of millions of people from the cycle of poverty.”
The Prime Minister said that the organization has gradually progressed in areas agreed to promote mutual cooperation and partnership as well as mutual cooperation and partnership through the use of its comparative advantages and diverse strengths for the benefit of all in the BIMSTEC region.

He said that Nepal, which is in the main role of expanding people-to-people contact, will work in close contact with the member countries for the common prosperity of this region with meaningful partnership, unity and friendship. Mentioning that the success of BIMSTEC lies in the peace, prosperity and the common interests of the people of this region, the Prime Minister said in the message that it is essential to maintain broad political commitment and understanding for the implementation of development projects. He mentioned that the BIMSTEC Charter, which came into effect last month, is helpful in people-centered development as well as the overall development of the BIMSTEC region.

The goal of BIMSTEC is to help the rapid economic development of member countries by implementing aid projects for trade, investment, industry, technology, human resources, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure and communication network expansion. The Sub-Regional Association of South and Southeast Asian Nations (BIMSTEC) was established on June 6, 1997 with the aim of jointly achieving economic growth and social prosperity of the member countries by adopting the principles of equality and cooperation.
