The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) yesterday announced that it will sit in opposition in the Centre and Punjab, as the political parties make efforts to finalize the process of government formation in Pakistan and provinces after the General Elections held on 8th February. The decision has been taken as per the directives issued by PTI founder Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. PTI has declared to hold peaceful protests in the country today against the unprecedented, massive, and brazen rigging in the elections.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Monday will hear a petition seeking to declare the recently held General Elections null and void, amidst allegations by several parties of poll rigging and deliberate delay in announcing the results. According to local media reports, the petitioner who is a citizen has made the Election Commission of Pakistan and the federal government as respondents in the case. The petition also seeks a stay order on the formation of the new government till the case is resolved.
While the PTI-backed independent candidates secured more seats, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has claimed to have enough numbers to form the government as some independents joined the PML-N post-polls.
