In Sri Lanka, the crucial presidential elections are scheduled to be held next Saturday. Over 17 million voters will decide the fate of 38 candidates who are in the fray.
With the campaign silence period of 72 hours before the polls fast approaching, the frontrunners have intensified their campaigns, holding meetings and rallies outside Colombo. Incumbent President Ranil Wickremasinghe, SJB candidate Sajith Premadasa, and NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake held rallies at various places today.
The three leaders addressed several issues, including developmental challenges in the north, the recent salary hike and income tax reduction, as well as the drug menace. Mr. Wickremasinghe held rallies at Jaffna, Matale, and Kegalle, while Mr. Premadasa engaged with voters at Ratnapura and Bandarawela. On the other hand, Mr. Dissanayake’s rallies were held at Anuradhapura and Mirigama.
