CAIRO. It is suspected that 6 passengers died when the submarine sank in the Red Sea.
According to reports, the submarine sank on Thursday morning near the port of the Egyptian city of Hurghada. 29 others were rescued. Four of the injured are in serious condition and have been treated at a nearby hospital.
At the time of the accident, it is suspected that there were about 40 passengers in the submarine. The sinking submarine belongs to the Sindbaz Submarine. The company has been taking tourists on trips for years. The company says that there are only 14 submarines used for recreational activities worldwide and it owns two of them. The sunken submarine had 44 passenger seats and two pilot seats.
This is not the first time that a tourist vessel has been involved in an accident in Hurghada. Earlier in November, 11 people died or went missing when a tourist boat capsized. 35 people survived the accident.
Last month alone, there were 16 accidents involving liveaboard vessels.
