Seoul– South Korea has announced a presidential election. On Tuesday, the government there announced an election to be held on June 3 to select a new president.
The election was formally announced after the constitutional court deposed President Yoon Suk Yeol, who pushed the country into a constitutional crisis by imposing martial law in early December. The decision came four days after Yeol was dismissed.
Candidates should have registered their names by May 11. The election campaign will officially begin on May 12. The constitution provides that elections should be held within 60 days after the position of the President becomes vacant.
Before this, the election was held on May 9, about 60 days after the dismissal of the then president Park Geun-hye on March 10, 2017.(Edited)Restore original
