South Korea’s population aged 65 and over has exceeded 10 million, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Thursday.
The ministry has confirmed that 19.51 percent of the total population of 51.2 million 69 thousand in South Korea is 65 years old or older.
The ratio of elderly people, which was 11.79 percent in January 2013, reached 13.60 percent in January 2017, 15.48 percent in December 2019 and 17.45 percent in April 2022.
South Korea is approaching a super-aging society, with more than 20 percent of its population aged 65 or older.
Here, the number of men aged 65 years or above is 44 lakh 27 thousand 682, while the number of women is 55 lakh 72 thousand 380.
Statistics show that the number of elderly people living in the Seoul metropolitan area has reached 4.49 million, while there are 5.5 million and 10 thousand in the outer areas.
