New York: Though some countries of the South have been showing commendable economic performance, the progress among them is uneven, said H.E. Ambassador Amrit Bahadur Rai of Nepal, on behalf of the Group of LDCs.
The LDCs, with some modest progress in socio-economic fields, remain at the bottom of the development ladder. The LDCs account for 13% of world population but only about 1.3% of global GDP and less than 1% of global trade and FDI. They host about 40% of world’s poor.
A South South and Triangular Cooperation strategy focused on a number of key thrust areas such as trade, technology, investment, education and economic cooperation, identified in the Doha Programme of Action, should be materialized.
