More than 100 people were killed on Monday in a heavy attack by the Israeli army in the southern city of Rafah and surrounding areas of Gaza Strip. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that hundreds of women and children were injured in the attack.
On Monday morning, the Israeli army reportedly shelled the Rafah area with about 40 airstrikes on the ground. The Israeli military said that Hamas had carried out a series of attacks in southern Gaza. Details of the damage caused by the attack have not been given.
Since October 7, 2023, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli attacks on Gaza has reached 28,176. Gaza’s Ministry of Health said in a statement that 67,784 were injured in the attack.
Since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, about half of the residents have fled to Rafah, on the Egyptian border, in search of safety.
Through the Rafah crossing, they are living by receiving food and medicine aid from foreign countries and United Nations agencies. In the border town of Rafah, farmland, schools and roadsides are full of displaced people.
