Kathmandu. The Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal, Torun Drumdall, had a courtesy meeting with the Speaker Devraj Ghimire. It is reported that in the meeting held today in the Speaker’s office at Singhadarawar, the relations between the two countries and development cooperation were discussed.
In the meeting, Speaker Ghimire mentioned that after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, the two countries have exchanged high-level political leadership and visits at the diplomatic level, cooperation in development cooperation, people-to-people relations, investment and trade, tourism and other fields.
“As a development partner, Nepal has given high priority to the relationship with Norway”, he said, “The work done by the Norwegian government in the fields of renewable energy, education and good governance has also been useful for us.” Speaker said.
On that occasion, Norwegian Ambassador Torun Drumdal said that although diplomatic relations were established in 1973, the two countries have had friendly relations since 1950. She mentioned that her country has provided assistance worth Rs 35 million to various areas of Nepal.
Ambassador Drumdal recalled that high-level visits are being held between the two countries from time to time and informed that the Norwegian Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense will visit Nepal next September.
Speaker Ghimire also informed that a Nepal-Norway Parliamentary Friendship Group has been formed in the Parliamentary Parliament of Nepal, and expressed his belief that the visit of the Norwegian Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense to Nepal in September will bring parliamentary exchanges to a higher level.
