THE WORLD’S BRIGHTEST MINDS GATHER TO ADDRESS THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Madrid: enlightED, the global conference on education, technology and innovation returns in an in-person format on November 16 and 17 at the Central Building of the Telefónica District. This fifth edition also has the support of “la Caixa” Foundation, which joins Fundación Telefónica, IE University and South Summit as organizers of the event.

This year’s panel of speakers is comprised of some of the brightest minds internationally and nationally, including renowned psychologist Susan David; Bisila Bokoko, founder of the African Literacy Project; Ousman Umar, founder of Nasco Feeding Minds; Alok Kanojia, co-founder of Healthy Gamer; and Kenneth Cukier, an authority on emerging technology, among the most prominent.

Twenty presentations will address the challenges of learning and education in the digital age

Throughout the two-day event there will be a total of 20 presentations distributed via 12 panels, seven keynote addresses, a Q&A and a maths workshop addressing equity and inclusion.

On Wednesday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m., the institutional opening will be led by Carmen Morenés, CEO of Fundación Telefónica, Santiago Iñiguez, President of IE University, Liz Fleming, Director of Ecosystems at South Summit, and Xavier Bertolín, Corporate Director of Education and Marketing at “la Caixa” Foundation, which will be followed by  two days of panels and workshops.

The first keynote address of the conference on the challenges of the future of EdTech will be given by Ikhlaq Sidhu, Dean of IE School of Science & Technology, and Kenneth Cukier, best-selling author and authority on emerging technology and digital disruption. Other keynotes and Q&As will also take place during the first day, such as Feeding Minds through Digital Education by Ousman Umar, founder of NASCO Feeding Minds and CEO of NASCO Tech and Magdalena Brier, CEO of ProFuturo; Social Entrepreneurship for Inclusion, with the participation of Bisila Bokoko, founder and CEO of BBES and Liz Flemming, Director of Ecosystems at South Summit, among the highlights.

In addition, during this first day, enlightED 2022 has designed its 24h Challenge, an immersive 24-hour non-stop experience at the headquarters of 42 Madrid, one of the most innovative campuses in the world. Attendees will be able to learn about its disruptive teaching methodology and the possibilities it offers its students to train for free in one of the most demanded professions in the labor market.

The second day will start with the Keynote and Q&A Technology and Mental Health, attended by Alok Kanojia, renowned psychiatrist, president and founder of Healthy Gamer, and María Zabala, journalist, writer and communication consultant specialized in technology and digital society.

Among the panel discussions: Digital Skills for Today and Tomorrow, led by Luis Miguel Olivas, director of the Employability and Educational Innovation Area of Fundación Telefónica, María Lillstrom, project manager of Astrazeneca, Joao Amaral, director of Development of Sonae and Marco Dondei, an expert in the future of work; and Evidence-based Education: Keys to Reducing Educational Inequity, with Marta Ferrero, Vice-Dean in Research and Teaching Transfer at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at UAM, and Kim Bohling, head of Evaluation at the Education Endowment Foundation, among others.

The final presentation will be given by Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, before the closing ceremony at 2:10 p.m. in the presence of Pilar Alegría, Minister of Education and Vocational Training, and José María Álvarez-Pallete, Executive Chairman of Telefónica.
