Kathmandu. 6 thousand 78 videos posted by Tiktok against community ‘guidelines’ in Nepal in two months have been removed. According to Tiktok representatives, 99.1 percent of the videos posted in April and June were removed immediately and 93.2 percent of the videos were removed within 24 hours.
The data was presented at the ‘Digital Safety Summit Nepal’ program organized by Tiktok in coordination with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology today in Kathmandu. In the program, Sidra Jalil, representative of Tiktok, presented a working paper about the guidelines made to regulate Tiktok.
Presenter Jalil said that age groups have also been separated to create a decent and organized TikTok platform. TikTok has set guidelines including the age limit of 16 years to send direct messages on TikTok and the age limit of 18 years to go live. However, he said that due to the lack of awareness of users about the correct use of social media, the guidelines are not followed properly.At the same event, Firdous Moktakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations of Tiktok for South Asia, said that he is committed to continuous cooperation with the Government of Nepal in promoting digital literacy and online security. He informed that specific ‘guidelines’ have been created, especially for the online safety of children and youth. Stating that an important step has been taken in the direction of creating a safe online environment in Nepal, he also said that there is a special interest in the safety of TikTok users.
