Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday called on Islamic countries to unite in response to the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Addressing the Fifth General Assembly of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum held in Istanbul, he said that he is working hard to ensure that the crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by Israel are not ignored in the international arena.
“We are continuing our diplomatic contacts so that Islamic countries can unite against Israeli brutality in Gaza,” he said. He reiterated Turkey’s commitment to support the establishment of an independent, sovereign and internationally recognized State of Palestine.
“We will continue our struggle until the establishment of an independent and territorially unified Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital along the 1967 borders,” Erdogan said.
Israel is launching a major military offensive against Hamas-ruled Gaza after Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people.
Since then, the number of Palestinians who have died from Israeli attacks has reached 27,947, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
