Various parties, including China, have expressed strong disappointment and displeasure over the fact that the United States once again used its veto on a draft resolution submitted to the UN Security Council demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday that the US veto would push the situation in Gaza into an even more dangerous situation. Spokesman Mao Ning made the comments at a daily press briefing when asked for comment on the US vote against Algeria’s draft resolution.
This is the third time the US has vetoed a draft resolution related to the Gaza conflict. Mao said the longstanding Palestinian-Israeli conflict has led to a disastrous humanitarian situation in Gaza and seriously affected regional peace and stability.
The draft resolution submitted by Algeria on behalf of the Arab nations calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate release of all hostages, guaranteed access to humanitarian supplies and the rejection of forced displacement.
