The United Nations and its partners appealed for three billion dollars as the conflict in Sudan entered its second month, seeking to provide assistance to the millions of people still within the country and the hundreds of thousands who have fled to neighboring countries.
The dead toll, humanitarian needs, and the number of people forced to flee their homes in Sudan are all rising rapidly as the crisis worsens.
The United Nations (UN) responded to the crisis by launching two different action plans in order to provide required help in the form of food, healthcare, shelter, protection, and other essential aid.
The Humanitarian Response Plan for Sudan has been revised to match the growing requirements, and the amount of money needed to assist 18 million people through the end of this year has increased from USD 800 million to USD 2.56 billion. This makes it the largest appeal that has ever been issued for Sudan, according to the UN.
Sudan Regional Refugee Response Plan proposes USD 470.4 million in funding to assist refugees, returnees, and host communities in neighboring countries. Over one million people, including refugees, returnees, and third-country nationals, are expected to benefit from the cash.
Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths acknowledged the dire situation, saying that humanitarian groups are eager to deliver supplies, but that the international community’s generosity is required to scale up the response and reach all those in need.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi echoed this call, saying everyone with resources should support those who have lost everything.
