UN warns of famine in 14 regions of Sudan

The United Nations has warned that famine may occur in 14 places in Sudan.
“There is a risk of starvation in 14 places, including Greater Darfur, Greater Kordofan and Al Jazeera states, as well as parts of Khartoum,” the UN said on its website.
The website mentions that 755,000 people from 10 states of Sudan are facing the catastrophic fifth stage of starvation. It is said that 8.5 million people in Sudan, or 18% of the population, are suffering from food insecurity.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a deadly conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, more than 16 thousand 650 people have lost their lives due to the conflict. Agency
