UNDP Nepal joins hand with Lalitpur Metropolitan City to promote women empowerment, entrepreneurship, enhance the capacity of LMC personnel among different other collaborative initiatives.
The Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chiri Babu Maharjan and the Resident Representative of UNDP Nepal, Ayshanie Medagangoda Labe today signed a Memorandum of Understanding which encompasses a wide range of collaborative initiatives. The key areas of cooperation includes enhancing support for women entrepreneurs by developing a comprehensive 5-year strategy plan which will enable better access to technology, finance and market. Additionally, the UNDP and LMC will collaborate on the development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based chatbot system for integration into LMC’s official website and social media platforms. Another significant focus is the promotion of environment-friendly initiatives, involving youths, eco-clubs, and relevant institutions to combat climate change, protect the environment, and promote waste management. Strengthening the capacity of LMC personnel, including leadership training, first aid, health and safety, and firefighting, will be prioritized. The MOU also entails technical support for the development of a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) strategy, aligning with LMC’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment and diversity. Collaboration will extend to other governance areas and will identify additional opportunities for strengthening the partnership between the two institutions.
