In the Red Sea, an American guided missile destroyer, USS Carney, struck 14 Houthi drones on Saturday. In a social media post, the US Central Command has said that the US Arliegh Burke-class guided missile destroyer successfully engaged 14 unmanned aerial systems, launched as a drone wave from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. It added that they were one-way attack drones and were shot down with no reports of damage to ships or injuries in the area. Regional partners of America were alerted to the threat.
Since November this year, Houthis have targeted ships owned by foreign countries in the Red Sea. About three weeks ago, the Houthi rebels captured a cargo ship, Galaxy Leader, which was heading towards India. The 25 member crew of the ship is still being held hostage in the Yemeni port of Hodeidah.
