USA: Republican Party wins majority of seats in House of Representatives

In USA, the Republican Party have won a majority of seats in the House of Representatives, after results from crucial midterm elections were tallied today. The final call came after more than a week of ballot counting, with Republicans securing the 218th seat required to gain control of the House. The result returns the conservative party to power in Washington, allowing them to resist Biden’s agenda and start a flurry of investigations.

US President Joe Biden’s Democrats will now be relegated to the minority in the lower chamber of US Congress. Kevin McCarthy, who was elected, to be Republicans nominee to replace Democrat Nancy Pelosi as the next Speaker of the House. President Joe Biden has congratulated Mr McCarthy and offered to work with Republicans to deliver results for Americans. The new Congress will be convened on January 3 next year.
