2 billion aid to Nepal by USAID in 24 years

Katmandu – The International Development Assistance Agency (USAID) of the United States of America has provided 1 trillion 96 billion in aid to Nepal’s development since 2000. USAID has provided more than one and a half billion US dollars in Nepal’s health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, economic growth, women’s and children’s empowerment, humanitarian aid, good governance, environment, civil society and communication.
According to USAID’s statistics, in 2023, more than 1 million women were directly contributed to the lives of more than 1 million women through health, education, and economic growth programs, and an additional 5 million women were indirectly reached through activities such as mass media campaigns. In an interaction organized by USAID on Thursday, Acting Mission Director Beth Hogan informed about the support and contributions made by USAID during its seven-decade partnership with Nepal and the Nepali people. In addition, he mentioned that USAID is providing grant support according to the needs and priorities of the Nepalese government. USAID is the US government agency that leads international development. USAID works in more than 100 countries including Nepal. The partnership between USAID and Nepal is more than 63 years.
Thanks to USAID’s support since its inception, malaria has been eradicated from the southern Terai region, agriculture has flourished in what was once an uninhabitable country, literacy has increased, average life expectancy has doubled, child mortality has dropped significantly, peace and democracy have been facilitated, and vaccinations during the COVID-19 crisis According to various departmental officials of USAID’s office in Nepal, USAID has supported more than 1.1 million children under the age of five in Nepal in 2023 through nutrition programs, to reduce child marriage and forced marriage of children, and to promote education for girls. More than two thousand community leaders and stakeholders were involved in the solution. During this period, with the help of USAID, farmers and entrepreneurs were able to sell agricultural products worth 63 million US dollars.
USAID said that it has helped 12.4 million people to get voter and civic education, and is helping the Nepalese government to finalize the 1,200 MW hydropower project worth 2.4 billion US dollars. Zehra Naqvi, spokesperson of the US Embassy in Nepal, said in the program. He expressed his views on bilateral relations and cooperation. Likewise, USAID Nepal’s Gender and Inclusive Development Advisor Manju Tuladhar, Development Program Specialists Sujan Piya and Vishwas Rana, Energy Specialist Shankar Khadgi, Education Specialist Rajkumar Dulal, Senior Health Consultant Jaganath Sharma, Acquisition and Aid Specialists Chetna Ghimire and Tejendra Paudel, Financial Analyst Tech Pandey , Chief Accountant Preksha Shrestha and others gave information about USAID’s cooperation and projects in Nepal.
